Haro Gets A Makeover

Skip and I wanted to test our new IWATA spray paint gun. [www.anestiwata.com] Ryan has been riding his trick bike more lately and it needed some adjustments. We decided it would be a great weekend project.
Taking the bike apart completely was interesting, but Skip managed. We used 320 grit sandpaper, mostly by hand, before the primer coat. We chose Napa's painted-surface primer because the expert guy says it has the best fill properties and we knew we'd have very little bare metal even after sanding. It was great, but next time we need to put the primer on a bit thicker. We did two coats, but maybe just didn't do them wet enough. Very few drips with this gun, we like it.

Ryan's friends were handy ... helping ???

The Haro emblem is actually engraved into the bike, so it will still be there when it's repainted.

To mix the bondo, we use disposable stuff. The two components are mixed to an even color and then applied. You've got about 4 minutes before it starts to set up and get grainy.

For this brand, one inch of the hardener to one golf-ball-size goo of the other. We didn't need that much at one time, so this is theoretically 1/4 of a golf-ball size of goo and 1/4" of hardener (the brick-red stuff).

As you can see, we were struggling part way through :)

We're done!

Happy :)

Been meaning to get this going for awhile ...

Writing is so easy to put off, so easy to delay. Very similar to regular exercise ... hmmmm
I've been thinking of starting a blog for a looooooong time. About how long it usually takes for me to get some of my "brilliant" ideas actually started. I talk about it, I get excited about it, and someday/sometime in the future it comes to fruition.
Frequently I am accused of procrastinating but that's really not it. Its more that I always have a million thoughts of things I want to do and rarely consciously pick between them. I make my lists, am amazingly happy that I've created the list, and then sit back and just let my days evolve and things sift out into accomplishments when they will.
We celebrated my 50th birthday last week by finishing the painting of our bedroom which had been in-progress since Christmas last year. Its not as bad as that sounds ... it wasn't like under-construction or anything.
I had a great week painting during January, but then got busy, put everything back and proceeded to let it be until about June. One day I got a wild-hair notion and finished all of the wall space that was visible. In other words, I painted around my hanging quilts and cabinets.
Thereafter followed several months of feeling like we were in a green room, but just not quite. Well, it is now beautiful :)
This story is an example of how my lists become actualized eventually. I wouldn't have it any other way.
